Premier Stefanson announced that a new funding policy would be implemented that would “encourage the desired outcomes.” Any new funding policy has been developed without consultation with the key stakeholders, faculty and students. The graduates of Manitoba universities are fully employed and earning the highest incomes of any group in society. To MOFA that is a highly desirable outcome. With this ominous announcement to fix what isn’t broken, it appears that Premier Stefanson is prepared to continue the discredited policies of Mr. Pallister. And we fear that our university administrations will continue to appease this government in their attempt to reduce our autonomous universities to little more than trade schools. They should be standing shoulder to shoulder with faculty to defend – for our students and all Manitobans – the quality of our post-secondary education system.
