Dear Minister Reyes,
I am writing to express Prairie Spirit School Division’s Board of Trustees opposition to the implementation of performance-based funding for universities and colleges in Manitoba. This approach is not only misguided but also has the potential to have a negative impact on the K-12 public school system in our province.
Performance-based funding systems have been shown to create a narrow focus on metrics at the expense of other important aspects of a university or college’s purpose, such as equitable access to education for marginalized students and access to educational programming in rural areas.
This funding approach is not in the best interest of our students and our province, and we ask that you instead focus on providing Manitoba universities and colleges with the resources they need to provide a high-quality education for all students.
Sincerely,
Jan McIntyre
Board Chairperson
